Old brakes

Since I am definately not going back to the old brakes, I will be selling the parts off. The kit from MP brakes served me well - until I went racing that is - but for street use, I could not recommend a better set up. The parts come complete with rotors, calipers, brackets and dustshields. I can also throw in the old pads but would recommend renewing those.

Stop and look

Pic of the finished brake setup with the wheel mounted

The view from behind exposes the trick custom made bracket that the calipers are mounted to.

New brakes

The new brakes arrived, courtesy of Marcus Lipp from Prototech. The 32mm discs with Calipers from ap racing will bring a host of advantages. The setup is much lighter that the previous brakes were, reducing unsprung weight. The bigger discs develop more stopping power and will not fade as quickly when abused. In addition to that the pads can be changed without removing the calipers, which might be convenient at the race track. Last but not least - I think they look really awsome!

Oilpan TF 727

I installed a new aluminum oilpan for the torqueflite. It holds a little more oil for better cooling and has the big advantage of a drainplug. Taking the old pan off was a bloody mess, as it is impossible to drain the oil before removing the pan. I also hope to have cured a small leak where the dipstick is pluged into the trans.

#fail

For the time being, I have abandoned my plans to install a lightweight fiberglass trunk lid. I just could not get it aligned  properly with the stock hinges, as the inside of the lid is not centered correctly. I do not want to mess with the hinges, since I want to be able to return to the stock deck lid any time. So the stock lid is back on the 'Cuda for this season.

The adapters for the brake calipers are finished. Machined out of solid aluminum they  connect the calipers to the existing mounting holes on the spindles.

brakejob

Marcus Lipp from Prototech got started on the brake - update on the front axle. The  brackets for the calipers  will have be made out of a solid aluminum piece. The wilwood rotors are 1.25 inches thick and 11.75 inches in diameter and will fit well in the 15 inch wheels...Lightweight aluminum hubs will also help to reduce unsprung mass...
