A new set of rims

Picked up a new set of wheels on the internet...where else??? They are KMC Hot Wheels 68 rims covered with Cooper rubber.
Trouble was, the wheels were in Bremen in Germany, almost 900 Kilometers away.
Anyway, I managed to get them here and of course I had to mount the rears immediately! The tires are 275/40-17s, the size and the offset off the rims fit fantastically, they really tuck in nicely under the fenders - suppose I will need some lowering blocks though.

The rims look a lot like the original magnums, only bigger and not steel but alloy... If I figure out a way to color the five triangles between the spokes in flat black, just as they are on the magnums, I will do that.

Rims

One of the biggest eyecatchers of any car is the set of wheels it's sitting on. The 'Cuda will run this set of FIA approved racing alloys, formerly used on a '69 Mustang with the european historical tournig car circuit racing crowd. (luckily Ford and Mopar have the same bolt pattern). The Minilite-style wheels were media blasted and powder coated, the outer rims are polished.

I have not yet gotten around to picking them up from the shop but Doc Stinger has ensured me that the grey part is actually grey and not as blueish as it may appear in these pics.

Not that I'm ready to set this thing on its wheels yet but when the time comes I want to be ready :-)

So I got started on the rims for the 'Cuda. This is the type of wheel that was widely used by the racecars of the trans-am series in the late sixties and early seventies. There are a lot of pics out in the net of the Cudas, Challengers and Camaros with wheels like these ringing it out an places like Laguna Seca, Mid America and Lime Rock. I bought these particular rims off a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang used for vintage racing - so they are FIA approved and will take a beating before they break apart. Th wheels were media blasted and prepped for paint. (Luckily ford and mopar share the same bolt circle and the offset fits as well) A good tight fit in the wheelwells!

I have the offer to have the outer lips polished, I think I'll have that done and just paint the inside of the wheel.
